Top 5 Things To Do In Paris
1 Eiffel Tower
Is it almost impossible to go to Paris and not see
the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel stands in the heart of Paris surveying
all her splendorousness. Look up and there’s ET looking down.
The real question is should you go up? Fear of heights, lack of
time. aversion to queuing, crowds, cost and hating a good time are
all reasons not to. What would you miss?
Paris. The view from each level is just fantastic. You look around
and the whole of Paris is laid out in front of you, with roads seeming
to lead right to the tower, and you're right in the middle of everything.
So it has to be done unless you have a note from your doctor.
For the don’t-like-height people the third highest level
is enclosed.
For I love heights people there is one more level that is outside
and it the most breathtaking albeit windy view. The view from each
level is picture taking perfect.
We all hate lining up. It can be reduced by arriving early and
avoiding peak times like holidays and just about all of summer.
You need to balance this against why you are there in the first
place. Sometimes you just have to wait. Bring a book with you.
Cost can be a killer. The Eiffel Tower lights up every night with
sparkling lights a sight to behold and it doesn’t cost a thing.
You can't go Pass a Paris Museum
Buy a Museum Pass and save yourself time and money. The passes
cover you for consecutive days and can be purchased at tourist offices,
metro stations and of course, museums.
You can often gain entry into Paris Museums on the cheap on Sundays
and for many museums the entrance is free on the first Sunday of
the month.
2 The Louvre
Dating back to the middle ages The Louvre has served
the people of France in a variety of ways including as royal palace.
Now The Louvre just houses priceless works of art
and is one of the most important museums in the world.
Besides The Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo there is much
to see. Allow plenty of time, hire an audio guide and undertake
some homework to get the most from your visit.
3 Arc de Triomphe
Since Napoleon the Arc de Triomphe has served as a
triumphant symbol of victory for the French troops returning home
from battle.
March up the Champ Elysse and see Arc de Triomphe.
It is just amazing, a must see.
The Arc contains the tomb of the unknown soldier,
the details of its history and the names of the fallen.
You can climb to the top although it is debatable
if its really worth the effort and time.
4 Notre Dame
Notre Dame is a priceless attraction. Indeed, it is
one of the few free attractions in Paris - you only have to pay
if you want to climb the towers.
Notre Dame is a building that impresses from the
outside but devours, distills, elevates then gently lets you down
into a bed of enriched experience and quiet contemplation. Who needs
drugs.
As the sun streams through its stunning stain-glassed
windows Notre Dame may touch in such a way as to leave you breathless
and possibly your boyfriend as well.
If you want to ogle at the gargoyles arrive early
to avoid queuing for too long and climb the towers.
One person’s gargoyle is someone else's not
worth the sweat thanks all the same. Whilst the gargoyles don’t
do awful lot like springing to life and eating people they are impressive
and you do get a good view of Paris while you are up there.
It’s a long haul, best undertaken early morning
or late evening (when allowed to). For more Parisian Gothic cathedral
experiences try Saint Denis.
5 Les Catacombes
The Catacombes is an underground cemetery that holds
200-year-old skeletons. You can see dead people. Alot of them.
The walls are made of human skulls and other bones.
The shear quantum of human remains is hard to fathom.
This is a creepy experience and certainly not for
the faint hearted.
